ENGAGEMENTS

A mutual friend saw the potential in bringing them together. An invitation was extended and they both ended up at the same party. Molly with her infectious smile and Tim with his big blue eyes. You can almost picture them across the room from each other meeting eyes for the first time. No doubt you can see why they sparked a conversation, the two of them were probably both voted "Best Looking" in high school. But it was most likely it was the laughter that kept them talking that night. On those first couple of dates, they probably discovered the way they can make each other crack up like no one else. The first few months, they found out just how much they had in common.

Soon, they both knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. So Tim went about finding the perfect ring and planning the perfect time to ask her. He scheduled a trip and thought out everything he would say to her. When the moment came Molly didn't even have to think for a second before she blurted out the answer. She had seen Tim as her potential husband since early on, and knew he was the right one for years. In a few months yet another invitation will be extended, this time for a party in their honor. A celebration on the day Molly & Tim become husband and wife.

* * *

We spent the day with Molly & Tim in several of our favorite spots in Central Park. It was a super hot day at the tail end of July (nearly a year to the day until their wedding), but Tim and Molly didn't let the heat get to them. They kept it cool, going with the flow and letting their personalities shine through in each and every shot we took. We chatted about their wedding plans, their recent trip to Greece, and all of the amazing places they have traveled together. From the Bethesda Fountain to the Bow Bridge, we hit up nearly all of the movie-worthy spots in the park with Molly & Tim's chemistry even more captivating then any romantic comedy we had ever seen. Of course, you can judge for yourself - check it out below!

This was the beginning of the session and if Molly & Tim were nervous, you wouldn't be able to tell at all. Just look at those giant smiles on their faces, totally comfortable in each other's arm's and in front of the camera.

As you can see Molly is in incredible shape, thanks to the fact that she is a Yoga Instructor & Nutritionist.

As busy as Central Park can get, it's not too hard to find little nooks like this one - a shady quiet spot perfect for some solid newspaper-worthy portraits.

See what we mean about Molly's infectious smile? You can't help but grin around these two.

We usually suggest couples bring two outfits with them to an engagement session - a dressy one and a more casual one. Molly & Tim's outfits were perfect for an afternoon in the park.

You can't deny that kissing is going to be a part of any engagement session, but sometimes it's the moment right before (like this one) is just as magical.

Manhattan, NYC Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Manhattan, NYC: Engagement Session Photos

OK, so is the actual moment of the kiss.

Manhattan, NYC Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Manhattan, NYC: Engagement Session Photos

Another fun part of shooting Central Park - making even the busiest sections of the park seem just as secluded as the tucked-away nooks. This is part of the Bethesda Terrace, a heavy traffic area of the park but you'd never know it from these shots.

Manhattan, NYC Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Manhattan, NYC: Engagement Session Photos

As much fun as it is to avoid all the people in the park, sometimes it's even better to incorporate the crowds into the shot. It captures the hustle and bustle of the city.

We hit up this section of the park almost every time we shoot there for a couple of reasons - a) it's gorgeous, b) it almost always has beautiful light and c) because it's usually cooler than anywhere else - a welcome relief from the heat.

Believe it or not, even after many visits to the park before this was our very first visit to the Bow Bridge. We had always seen it in the movies but were never quite sure where it was. Thankfully, Molly & Tim knew how to get there.

There's Molly's big smile again, makes Tim smile back every time.

Skinny jeans + Louboutin's, Molly can definitely pull it off.

Molly & Tim brought along some champagne to have a toast during their session. Not sure if we're allowed to drink in the park, but who's gonna tell? ;)

Manhattan, NYC Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Manhattan, NYC: Engagement Session Photos

We found a big rock with a nice view, an ideal spot for a little champagne break in the middle of the afternoon.

We never knew before that along the lake where the row boats are there are little sections of beach in the park. Obviously we had to take advantage of them as soon as we found them.

Molly & Tim, thank you for a wonderful day in the Park! We can't wait to spend a day next July with you in another park - this time for your wedding day!

WEDDINGS

Maybe it was the day we spent in Long Island having a bit of influence on me, but I found myself thinking about Billy Joel and one song in particular that reminded me of Sarah and Ben, "Home." It's a beautiful song (you should totally download it if you get a chance), and one line kept coming to mind as we started to go through the images for this post. "home is just another word for you." It had me thinking about them because Sarah & Ben have lived a lot of different places. All over the world, actually. In fact, when they met for the first time they were both far away from the places they were they had grown up.

They both ended up at the same military base and met in linguistics class. They hit it off right away and established a deep connection, one that would stick with them no matter how many miles separated them. Lucky, too, since the time they were both in on that same base would be the longest amount of time they were actually living in the same place at the same time for quite a while. They developed a strong relationship that withstood the test of time and distance while they were deployed to different parts of the world. In fact, even by the time their wedding came along, it wasn't until days before that they were finally back together in the same place once again. After the wedding they would go back to the separate places were they were deployed, but they'll be back together again to establish a true home together - no matter where they end up living. In the meantime, they'll be right at home in the phone calls, e-mails and messages they have gotten so used to sending to one another of the course of their relationship. Because home is not so much an actual place, it's a state of mind - the true comfort you get when you have found the one person that truly makes you feel more comfortable than you ever have before. And you'll feel at home whenever you hear their voice, no matter where you are.

* * *

We started the day at Sarah's parent's house in Bristol, where the house was filled with positive energy while Sarah had her hair and make-up done by a sister of one of her bridesmaids. Despite the intense heat and humidity outside (their wedding was held on what was probably the hottest day in July), everyone was keeping cool and excited for the day ahead. While the make-up and hair were being finished, we took some time photographing Sarah's Casa Blanca gown. Despite the rising temperatures, Sarah was totally up for getting some shots outside before heading to St Aloysius Church in Plantsville for the ceremony where we were joined by our good friend Meaganwho photographed with us.

The reception took place at Tunxis Plantation in Farmington. It was filled with tons of touches that incorporated Sarah and Ben's military backgrounds, family traditions and their sense of humor and playfulness. From Sarah's blue petticoat to the playing of the theme of "2001 Space Odyssey" during cake cutting, seeing Sarah and Ben together just made you smile. And maybe laugh a bit - their infectious energy is completely contagious.

Sarah doesn't usually have her hair and make-up done, so it was fun watching her face whenever she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror all morning.

Sarah's Dad, Larry, was actually the person who scheduled us for Sarah & Ben's wedding. He has an interest in photography as well and was happy to help out his only daughter plan the wedding while she was overseas.

As you can see, Ben was looking quite good himself, especially in his military uniform.

One of things we love to look for during ceremonies are little moments like this, when a couple shares a smile right in the middle of it all - like they can't believe it's finally actually happening after months of planning.

Block Island, RI: Meghan & Chris' Engagement Session Tuesday, August 17, 2010

ENGAGEMENTS

When Meghan and Chris were students together at UCONN they happened to share a few of the same friends. Chris was a couple years ahead of Meghan, so they never got much of a chance to establish a friendship but before he graduated Chris did manage to leave Meghan with one very important impression of him: that he was a nice guy. A rare find, especially in a crowded college campus, so Meghan made sure to take note. So when she happened to spot him again a few years later across a crowded bar not too far from her hometown, she had go over to strike up a conversation. She couldn't let a rare find like him pass her by. He remembered her, of course, Meghan has the kind of a smile you wouldn't forget. They talked for a while and Meghan made sure to give him her phone number so she wouldn't have to go so many years before their paths crossed once again. A state cop, Chris always takes note of his surroundings and when he saw that Meghan had come to the bar with a group of guys he became reluctant to give her a call, even though he very much wanted to. But, being the good guy that he indeed is, he figured a girl as beautiful as Meghan couldn't be single and one of those guys had to be her boyfriend. What he didn't know was that those guys were a group of old friends Meghan had grown up with and none was a romantic interest for her. Thankfully, one of his own friends talked him into picking up the phone and giving her a call a few days later and a first date was planned.

It didn't take too many dates for Chris to realize that he had indeed found something rare as well. Meghan is the kind of sweet and relaxed girl that most guys would think just just doesn't exist any more. She's focused on her own career, but when it comes to time away from work she just wants to have a good time. In that, she found a kindred spirit in Chris. They laugh together, travel together and made dreams about a life where they will be side by side. Chris, too, knew that when you have such a rare find you don't let it pass you by so he did what any logical man would do when you have a girl who makes you laugh and warms your heart with her smile: he asked her to marry him.

* * *

Shortly after our very first meeting with Meghan and Chris, they let us know they knew exactly where they would like to do their engagement session: Block Island. It was a place Meghan had visited quite a bit with her family as a child and she had shared her love with the island with Chris after they got together. We met early in the day and all hopped in the car for a mini tour around the island, guided by Meghan and Chris. It was the first trip to the island for Rob and I, so we were eagerly taking in all the sights and loving exploring the island. We started over at the Southeast Lighthouse, a large brick building which perfectly set off the bright blue skies we were so lucky to see that day. It was hot and sunny, but Meghan and Chris were total troopers. Thankfully, we were able to hop into the air conditioned car in between stops. We also hit up Mohegan Bluffs, the downtown area, and the marina before we happened to spot a field of tall wheat grass - if you a regular blog reader, you know we just had to stop. Again, Meghan and Chris were total troopers - trudging through the grass (and maybe some bugs) all for the shot. But, thankfully, it was totally worth it. In fact, the whole trip to Block Island was - just check out the proof below.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

We started the day at the Southeast Lighthouse, which seemed like a quintessential Block Island location to us.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

We totally understand that it's not every day that you go and have your pictures taken, so we always try to ease into the session in the beginning of the day. Lots of stuff you would do normally - walking together, talking, etc. - all while you get used to us being there. Plus, it makes for cute shots like this one.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

We like fences because they add a great level of visual interest in pictures. One of the first lessons you usually have in a photography class is to take shots of them to learn all about depth in pictures. It always helps when at the end of them happens to be a very cute couple.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

Another great way to ease into having your picture taken - snuggling. Who doesn't like to snuggle?

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

The view from the lighthouse was incredible. Way out into the distance you could even make out Connecticut.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

At one side of the lighthouse there was the grass walkway that led to someone's house. A very lucky someone. Thankfully, they didn't seem to notice we were hanging out in what was essentially their front yard.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

We never ask our clients to do anything we wouldn't do ourselves, so while we did ask Meghan and Chris to trudge through the long grass later on in the day, we climbed into the tall grass on either side of this walkway at this point. This is my shot.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

And this is what Rob was getting at the same time.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

The weather this summer has been pretty unpredictable (but I guess that's always the case). We were very happy to see this bright blue sky and white wispy clouds while we were taking the ferry to the island.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

As we learned from our trip around the island, the Spring House Hotel is a must-see on any trip to Block Island. It feels like a place where the Kennedy's would visit, classic New England.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

We learned pretty quickly that an incredible view is not too hard to find around Block Island. We were greeted with them at nearly every stop we made.

Before a quick outfit change, we grabbed a solid portrait (newspaper worthy, as we say) of Meghan and Chris. They both looked so tan and relaxed, thanks to the fact that they were actually in the middle of a two-week vacation in nearby Narragansett.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

A new outfit, another great solid portrait to show off those great smiles.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

Meghan and Chris enjoy shopping together, so walking down to the shops around Block Island would a regular occurrence for them.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

After some quality time downtown, we hopped back in the car and headed over to Mohegan Bluffs for yet another breath-taking view.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

There were many, many steps down to the rocky shoreline at the bottom of the bluffs. Not too bad on the way down, but a definite workout on the way up. Totally justified the Del's Lemonade we grabbed before the ferry ride home.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

By this time of the day, Meghan and Chris were totally comfortable in front of the camera. They were able to stay totally focused on their modeling skills even though their was a group of kids running around just a few steps away from where we took this shot.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

What engagement session is complete with out a few smooches? (Totally sticking by that one - my new favorite word.)

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

Ok, so maybe part of the reason for grabbing this shot was because it gave us a chance to catch our breath a bit before the hike back up the stairs.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

We were just about ready to wrap up the session when we spotted this field from the car. We were so happy that Meghan and Chris were up for making the walk through it.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

And even more thankful that they were willing to sit down in it as well. Totally worth it though!

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

This would be one of the many flying creatures in the middle of the field. At least they were friendly.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

The last stop of the day was down at the marina where we marveled at the yachts.

Block Island Engagement Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Block Island, RI: Engagement Session Photos

Meghan & Chris, thank you for a wonderful day and for introducing us to the wonder that is Block Island. We had a great time with you both, can't wait for April!

WEDDINGS

Seeing so many weddings and watching the way so many different couples interact with one another, we have learned quite a bit over the years. Not just about where to photograph what or which lighting conditions make for an optimal portrait, but about what really makes for strong connections between couples. We have learned this not only because we talk to our couples about what they love about one another, but because we watch for the little things that come through when there's not a word spoken. And one of the greatest things we have learned was solidified even more through our meeting and working with Meghan and Marc. They taught us that when you have found the one person in the world that is clearly perfect for you, something special happens. You become an even better version of yourself. You become more comfortable in your own skin, more confident to be who you really are because you know there is no longer any need to be anything else. You have found someone who has reassured you that all the things that you have always loved about yourself really are the things that make you loveable. You can try new things, take bigger chances because you know that no matter what you'll have that person by your side. And, what we think may be the most important, you can sing and dance around the house knowing that person not only won't judge you, they'll probably join you.

We had seen the sweet, gentle way Meghan and Marc interacted with each other during their rainy day engagement session in NYC back in May. We expected to see that again on their wedding day, and we did, tenfold. Not just when they were together either. You could see it with the smile on Meghan's face when she was told that Marc had arrived before the ceremony, with the look of unabashed excitment on Marc's face when he was told it was time to get into place because the ceremony was about to begin. Rob and I were both moved by the sweetness of their ceremony and the thoughtfulness of the vows they spoke to one another. It was during their reception that we saw something truly remarkable.

After very romantic first dance and a elegant dinner, Meghan and Marc took to the dance floor and let loose. They sang to one another at the tops of their lungs and moved perfectly in sync with each song, laughing and pulling each other close. And we weren't the only people captivated by them, several times throughout the night a circle formed around Meghan and Marc as friends and family cheered them on. It made me smile because I could just picture Meghan and Marc at home doing the very same thing - letting go, having fun and just being themselves, knowing that neither of them would ever judge them for a whacky dance move or random song choice because they'd rather jump in.

It was particularly moving to us because that very same scene wouldn't be unfamiliar in our house. Seeing the connection between Meghan and Marc - the gentle sweetness and the whacky fun-ness (totally a word), made us feel even luckier to not only do what we do for a living, but to have found one another. And having a job that makes you realize that all in one day, well that's pretty amazing.

* * *

We arrived in the morning at the The Wainwright House in Rye and settled in since it would be where we would be spending the entire day. Meghan arrived shortly after we did, looking even more gorgeous than she always does; with hair and make-up done by the New York City based Once Upon a Bride. She was completely relaxed and enjoying the morning, not wanting to rush a single minute of the day. She spent some time with her mother and bridesmaids in the bridal suite at the Wainwright House, overlooking the Long Island Sound. We took that time to photograph Meghan's stunning Vera Wang gown and her Stuart Weitzman shoes. When the flowers arrived, hand delivered by Alice of Petals by Alice in nearby Pleasantville, everyone agreed that the shades of ivory and green were the perfect match for all of the fabulous preppy-inspired outfits that would be worn that day. The bridesmaids were dressed in short navy blue dressed with a bright kelly green sash and the Marc and the groomsmen wore khaki pants, blue blazers and pink patterned ties - very fitting attire for a wedding taking place at a historic mansion overlooking the Sound.

The ceremony took place right on the edge of the property, literally steps away from the water. The setting was matched by the equally romantic vows, readings and traditions of the ceremony. It was one of the hotter days in July, so once the ceremony was over many of the guests headed up to the much cooler tented area for the cocktail hour where they were greeted by the staff of Cornerstone Caterers, with plenty of refreshments. We took that time to walk around the beautiful property of the The Wainwright House with Meghan, Marc and their bridal party before dinner got underway. After a relaxing, multi-course dinner, the dance floor opened and Harborside Productions gave Meghan and Marc plenty of songs to dance to (my particular favorite, the bring-down-the-house dance off to Led Zeppelin's "Fool in the Rain"). The night came to an end with a sparkler send off and Meghan and Marc rushing through the crowd of friend and family cheering for them as they rode off into the night as husband and wife.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

The drive to the The Wainwright House was very scenic and we were really enjoying taking in the sights of the neighborhood. So much so, that we could have easily driven right past the entrance. Thankfully, there was a sign to let us know we had arrived.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

And quite a dramatic front entrance to boot. As beautiful as the house is itself, it's view of the Long Island Sound is just as impressive.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

Meghan got ready in the bridal suite at the Wainwright House, giving us plenty of time to get some shots of her Vera Wang gown and Stuart Weitzman shoes.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

Meghan's bouquet, made by Petals by Alice, had the same soft, romantic feel as her gown.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

Before she was even in her gown, Meghan already looked gorgeous. Her hair and make-up were done by he New York City based Once Upon a Bride.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

While Meghan's mother was helping Meghan with the back of her dress, Rob and I captured it from two different angles, one of the many advantages of having the two of us shoot together. Rob's shot is on the right, and mine is on the left.

Rob stayed at the top of the sprial staircase to grab this shot of Meghan on her way outside.

While Marc and the guys hid away (so they didn't see each other before the ceremony), we spent some time with Meghan and her girls.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

The navy blue bridesmaid dresses and kelly green sashes were such a great mix of preppy and cheerful. A perfect choice for a summer wedding.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

We also love the elegance added by the pearl necklaces.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

We headed back inside before the ceremony to let Meghan and the girls cool off a bit (since it was so hot outside). We spotted this nearly all-white room upstairs and decided to get some more shots of Meghan. How gorgeous is she? The swept up hair was perfect with the strapless gown.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

As it's becoming very clear, Meghan has a great sense of style - her gown, the bridesmaids outfits, etc. She definitely carried it through with her choice of accessories and cathedral-length Vera Wang veil.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

Of course, Marc can hold his own in the style department as well. He selected all of the attire for the groomsmen. In fact, Meghan said that one of the things she liked right away about Marc was how good a dresser he was.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | Wainwirght House, Rye, NY: Wedding Photos

Before the ceremony, Marc signed the marriage certificate. Making it even more real that they were just moments away from being officially married.

The ivory, navy blue, pink and green were carried through with the flowers in the ceremony as well, all done by Petals by Alice.

While Meghan waited with her father to walk down the aisle, I stepped back to get this shot.

Meghan wiped away several tears during the ceremony, particularly when Marc read his vows to her.

As you can see, the Long Island Sound was directly behind the minister, creating quite a dramatic backdrop for the ceremony.

One of our favorite things is to capture the smiles that inevitably happen right after a kiss, especially the first one during a ceremony.

After the ceremony, Meghan and Marc headed off to get some shade under the tree before we spent some time with just the two of them.

You would never tell it was nearly 100 degrees out, because Meghan and Marc didn't let the heat phase them one bit. They were too happy to let anything bother them at all.

On one side of the property, there was this maze of bushes that we knew would be perfect for a shot of the wedding party. Thankfully, they were all game to go climbing inside it. Totally worth it!!

While Meghan and Marc got ready to be announced into the reception, we took some time in the (very air conditioned) rooms of the mansion capturing the details of the tables.

Toasts were offered by Meghan's Maid of Honor and Marc's Best Man, his brother.

At the end of the night, Meghan and Marc were given a sparkler send off by their guests. Rob headed up to the balcony to grab this shot.

And I grabbed this one from the ground - what better way to end the night than with a big kiss surrounded by sparklers?

Meghan and Marc, thank you so much for letting us share in your amazing day! We truly enjoyed getting to know you both and seeing what makes your love so special!

WEDDINGS

A couple of years ago Jen saw a scene in a movie that really touched her. Sitting there on the couch watching "Shall We Dance?" she heard one of the characters say something that resonated with her in a way nothing had done before. It talked about marriage. Not just about a wedding day and all that entails, but about what happens after that day and all the days that follow. In the movie, one character asked another what is the point of getting married. It was the answer to that question that touched Jen so deeply. The response was, "We need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet... I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things... all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'."

Those lines touched Jen so deeply, in fact, that she thought about it pretty often, especially when she was with Joe. She had know she wanted to marry him almost right away. They were young when they met and it didn't take long before they absolutely crazy about one another. But Jen is a unique mix - a hopeless romantic who also happens to bring a thoughtful approach to everything she does. She knows that marriage is about more than just being in love, it's also about being there for one another through it all - the good times and the bad. In Joe, she found someone that would do just that. And that made her love him even more.

Years later, while working on the wedding vows she would read to Joe her mind kept wondering back to that night on the couch, and to that movie. She could think of no better way to express not only how she felt about Joe that day, but how she planned on loving him every day into the future. So she wrote from the heart, keeping that quote from the movie in mind all the while. And when she walked down the aisle in Edgerton Park in New Haven last month and she met his eyes for the first time that day, she was completely prepared to read those vows to him. She vowed that she would be there during each and every moment, by his side each and every day. He did the same, saying that through the ups and downs of life, he would be there to hold her hand through it all. Each of their individual lives would mean that much more because they would know it wouldn't go unnoticed. They vowed to be each other's witness.

* * *

When we arrived in the morning to capture the getting ready time with Jen and her girls we were greeted with cheers. We were yet another reminder that the day had finally arrived. Jen was busy having her hair and make-up done by Gina Rioux Gabriel, so we took the chance to get some shots of her David's Bridal gown, her Badgley Mischka shoes, her jewelry and her bridesmaid's chunky necklaces that she got from the same place their dresses were from, Ann Taylor. Shortly after we were done with all those details, the bouquets were delivered from Fleur de Lys in New Haven - greeted with the same round of cheers from the girls. Jen gushed over her beautiful hydrangea and white orchid bouquet, a reaction only outdone by the arrival of a gift from Joe which arrived just before we all headed out to Edgerton Park in New Haven for the ceremony.

Edgerton Park is beautiful on it's own, but with the work of Fleur de Lys who created a row of flower petals and floral buckets on the edges of the seats and the staff at the New Haven Lawn Club who were coordinating it all including the lemonade stand they had set up for guests to enjoy as they arrived. It was a great idea, especially considering just how warm it was that day. After guests enjoyed several lemonades and the views of the park, the ceremony began. It was a moving ceremony, with Jen and Joe each reading their own vows pledging to be the witness in each other's lives. There was barely a dry eye in the when the first kiss as husband and wife came around but cheers followed as they walked back down the aisle together hand in hand.

We spent a bit of time with Jen, Joe and their bridal party, taking advantage of some of the plentiful beautiful backdrops around the park. From there we headed over to the New Haven Lawn Club for the reception. The room looked amazing, with blue uplighting and navy blue and silver touches throughout. Of course, it looked even better once Jen & Joe took to the center of the dance floor for their first dance to David Gray's "Be Mine." Once the dance floor opened up, Todd from Powerstation Events had the guests on their feet the rest of the night, dancing the night away and celebrating with Jen and Joe. It was a day no one would soon forget, a day where they had all served as witnesses to the beginning of Jen and Joe's life together as husband and wife.

Jen was incredibly excited when we arrived because it meant the day had finally come and because it meant soon she would be "the girl on our blog." She's a loyal blog reader, so that meant a lot to us. We told her she'd look amazing on the blog, especially since she looked gorgeous even before Gina Rioux Gabriel finished her make-up that morning.

Jen had a ton of accessories that we had a lot of fun photographing - the simple pearl necklace she would wear with her dress, her awesome five-inch Badgley Mischka shoes, her vows she had printed onto a special card, and the bridesmaids fabulous
Ann Taylor necklaces.

Jen's David's Bridal gown fit was the perfect fit for her and really showed off her up-do accented with a white orchid.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Jen's actually a bit allergic to orchids, but she loves them so much she would suffer through it just to have them in her bouquet and throughout the decor of the day. Fleur de Lys did a great job with all of the flowers.

One final toast with mimosas before Jen puts on her dress.

Jen was full of expressions all day long, my personal favorite was this face when she opened up the gift Joe had sent over that morning. It was a pearl bracelet to match the necklace she would be wearing that day.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

You can see the face continued when she saw the bracelet on her wrist.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Gina Rioux Gabriel did a few final touches on Jen before we headed out to get some shots of her.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

One of the best things about Jen is that she's just as sweet as she is beautiful.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Also, she has these big beautiful eyes that are awesome to photograph.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

The architecture of the buildings around Edgerton Park reminded us of Topsmead Park, the place where Jen and Joe selected for their engagement session.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Since the park is so close to the New Haven Lawn Club, the staff came over to oversee the ceremony and set-up a lemonade stand for the guests to enjoy.

The flowers of the day were a mix of pure white, light blue and green - all put together by Fleur de Lys.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

At the end of every aisle there were small cones with confetti which showered Jen and Joe as they walked by down the aisle at the end of ceremony.

Jen and Joe both seemed to have the same sweet smile on their faces as the ceremony began.

This is my angle as Jen walked down the aisle to meet Joe.

And this is Rob's view of the same moment.

This was an incredibly moving moment, when Joe reached out and took Jen's hand and led her to the front of the aisle.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Something about the setting for the ceremony in Edgerton Park reminded me of a scene straight out of a fairy tale, with the big house in the background and the huge tree overhead.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

These are some more of the variety of angles Rob and I cover as we shoot the ceremony. We've been working together for so long now we don't even have to communicate at all during the ceremony, we can predict the other one's next move. It really helps us to get all the angles.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

This is a classic Rob shot, he loves getting the wide shots that really set the scene.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

This is one of mine, I tend to get the closer shots and get the expressions while the couple looks at one another during the ceremony. This was Jen's reaction when the officiant announced their were husband and wife. She couldn't help but clap with happiness.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

And this is Rob's shot from just a minute later, their first kiss and husband and wife.

It was a very hot day, but the bridal party were very patient with us while we got some shots of them in a shady part of the park. (Thank you guys!!)

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Jen's little cousin is clearly a budding photographer - not only did he take a lot of shots all day, he was happy to show them off to any one who would look at the back of the camera. It was adorable.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

After bridal party and family shots were done, we headed off into the park again with just Jen and Joe.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

This field of blue hydrangea were just behind the place where the ceremony took place. We spotted them when we arrived and knew we wanted to head their for some shots.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

One of their first moments catching up after the ceremony, Jen and Joe had a lot to say to one another.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

And some time for some smooches too. (That's right, I'm bringing back smooches. Just cause I like it.)

After wandering through the park a bit, we spotted this bench and thought it would be nice to give Jen a break from her five-inch heels.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

It also gave them a chance for some more snuggling. Always a bonus.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Jen and Joe have a playful nature about them that's totally contagious. They just make you smile.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

We always enjoy working at the New Haven Lawn Club, not only because it's a gorgeous building (inside and out) but because the staff is really attentive.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

In rooms with tall ceilings like these, we always recommend uplighting to emphasize the unique features of the space and to bring some warmth as well.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

We totally love the chandeliers at the Lawn Club, they really enhance the room's art deco vibe.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Jen had thought of so many great details for the day - from the cards where guests to provide words of wisdom to the custom chair backs for her and Joe and the incredible white orchid centerpieces for the tables. It all created a very elegant look.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

Before introductions we grabbed Jen and Joe for a few more shots, this time in front of the Lawn Club.

Jen and Joe's first dance song was David Gray's "Be Mine." We'd never heard it before but downloaded it as soon as we got home, it's a great song.

Connecticut Wedding Photography: Robert and Kathleen Photographers | New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven, CT: Wedding Photos

They couldn't tear their eyes off one another throughout the entire song.
