If her friends and family didn't already know that he was the perfect man for her, they definitely found on the afternoon of their wedding.
He had his friend deliver a package to her just a few hours before the ceremony. She saw the box and laughed. "It matches!" she said, as she picked up the gift wrapped in yellow and blue, their wedding colors. Her mother, bridesmaids and aunts gathered around as she opened the card accompanying the present. Once she saw what was inside, she smiled again. She pulled out the card and the rest of the ladies in the room oohed and ahhed. "It's the same as your invitations!" one of them exclaimed.
At the very thought that he had taken the time to write to her on the very same paper they had used for their invitation, she was already starting to tear up...and she hadn't even read a single word yet. She opened the card and her eye was drawn a small note that was tucked in to one side, it was his "P.S" Of course she had to read that first. When she did the tears that had been welling up finally started to fall. Someone took the card from her and read it aloud. The groom, a Massachusetts native (and big Red Sox fan) had borrowed a quote from a famous a Yankee in honor of his NJ bride. "Today, he considered himself the luckiest man on the face of the earth." At that, everyone was wiping away they tears.
How could he top that?! In the midst of all the emotion, she almost forgot about the gift. She unwrapped it and everyone marveled at the gorgeous bracelet he selected for her. She put on immediately, it would look perfect with her dress.
But that wasn't even the best part. We realized the true meaning of his quote when we got to the reception. It was further evidence of his attention to detail, the wedding details to be specific. Not only did the wrapping and the card reflect their wedding colors and theme, so did the mention of being "the luckiest." It was a reference to their song, the incredibly sweet ballad titled "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds (look it up and listen to it if you get a chance, it's beautiful). The song is very significant to them as a couple, so much so that they had even incorporated into their decor - on the cocktail napkins, the cocktail stirrers.
He paid attention to every detail because he knew just how important it all was - not just to her, but to him as well. They weren't simply colors, invitations, or napkins - they were reflections of them as a couple and their journey - from their first date, to their engagement, to this very day...the day she makes him the luckiest man in the world, the day she becomes his wife.
GILLIAN & ERIC
Gillian and Eric lucked out (sorry, I had to!) in many ways - not the least of which was the incredible weather they had this past Saturday. The whole way up to Saybrook Point Inn & Spa on Saturday morning, we and our associate photographer Sue kept marveling at the temperature reading on the dashboard...70 degrees!
We arrived at Gillian's suite just in time to hear everyone agree that she and Eric had to take advantage of the unseasonably warm temperatures and have the ceremony outside, overlooking the marina - which they did. The ceremony was beautiful, filled with touches that were very "them": a sweet poem comparing the nurturing of love to raising a dog (take care of your love they way you would care for your pet, and you will get all the affection you could ever need), and sentimental vows they wrote themselves. The outdoor location allowed all of guests to have full view of the happy couple. Nearly every guest had the same look on their face...complete happiness for Gillian and Eric. They were made for each other and everyone could see it.
When the reception came and Gillian and Eric held each other as they danced to "The Luckiest," there was barely a dry eye in the room. Eric had written earlier that he was the luckiest person on the face of the earth, but with just one glance into his eyes on the dance floor, Gillian told him that she felt the very same way - without ever having to say a word. |
Similar to our prior wedding post we thought it would be great to start off Gillian & Eric's Wedding Story with this photo of them in front of one of my favorite things... long grass!! This was immediately after the ceremony at about 6:15 in the evening, the sky, the light, the grass was simply amazing. What I am also very happy with is this is out of camera (no editing). Kathleen and I could have shot there all day!
Ok, now to the beginning of their day. We love photographing at the Saybrook Point Inn, the rooms are very "Old Connecticut" in design and they have amazing views of the water. Kathleen and I started Gillian and Eric's Wedding with a photo of her dress by Pronovias hanging on the door...
...and her shoes up on the window. The blue sky and the light coming in was really nice.
The yellow and blue flowers were really beautifully done and added to the spring feel of Gillian & Eric's Wedding.
Gillian was so laid back and relaxed as she got her hair and make-up done by Ashley & Imaira from Beauty Entourage. Gillian's friend stopped by while everyone was getting ready and took a moment to look at photos on Gillian's camera from the rehearsal dinner the night before.
Eric had one of his groomsmen bring Gillian a hand-written card and gift. As soon as Gillian started reading the note that he wrote, she (and most of the room) teared up. It was such a nice moment.
Putting on a wedding dress is sometimes a team effort, I love how serious and intent everyone (especially Gillian's mom) looks here.
One of the flower girls after getting in her dress. She was so funny; while everyone else was getting ready, her mom was having her practice tossing flowers. It was very cute and paid off nicely, she ended up doing a great job as she came down the aisle.
The texture of the wallpaper and a simple light fixture provided the perfect place for a quick bridal of Gillian. We love the detail in her veil!
Gillian and Eric opted to see each-other before the ceremony. When our couples choose to do this, we love to setup a time for a "first meeting" so they can have a special moment as they see each-other for the first time. There are these docks behind the hotel where Gillian and I headed to for their first meeting. Kathleen stayed up in the room with the girls and caught this moment of the flower girls trying to catch a peek.
Gillian was up for anything, before meeting Eric she took a seat on the dock and hung her feet over the water for this simple photo.
As she heard the gentle steps of her soon-to-be husband she started to get very excited...
...and so did Eric as he saw Gillian in her wedding dress for the first time. We LOVE the first moment that a couple sees each other in their wedding outfits, the excitement is so wonderful.
Before the wedding party joined us we had a couple of moments alone with Gillian and Eric, the docks provided such a quite place for some relaxed portraits before their ceremony.
As the wedding party walked across the docks to join in some photos, Gillian and Eric paused for a quick kiss.
How cool is this!?! The entire wedding party took a seat and threw their legs over the side of the dock for some really fun photos. Let me tell you this group was a ton of fun, there was never a dull moment!
This one kind of feels like a painting to us, it is so peaceful.
As we were walking to the ceremony area, Gillian and Eric stopped for one more photo by the water, it was SO beautiful out.
All day long Gillian was trying to figure out if the weather was going to hold out long enough to have their wedding outside. The weather did in-fact hold out and ended up being perfect for their outside ceremony. Right before walking down the aisle with her mom, Gillian teared up as she realized that it was finally her turn to get married.
I absolutely love simplicity in photography. This is one of my favorite moments during their ceremony, I love the tree brances and the moment between Gillian and Eric.
The way that Eric looks at Gillian is perfect. This one is Kathleen's shot...
...and this is mine of the very same moment. We love the reaction of the bridesmaids as they witness Gillian and Eric getting married.
I know we say this quite often, but the moment right before the kiss is something we absolutely love. We especially love this "mini-story" of Gillian and Eric's first kiss as husband and wife.
As you saw in the first photo of this post, the light and the sky were so beautiful immediately following the ceremony and Gillian and Eric looked spectacular! This one is my view...
...and all three of these are Kathleen's. I get so excited to see the photos that Kathleen captures and how well our individual styles work together. It always amazes me to see how she captures the same moment. My favorite out of these three is by far the one on the left.
We kept hearing noises like that of a small animal in the long grass, but that did not stop me from walking into it to get this photo as the sun set.
The ballroom at the Saybrook Point Inn was really elegant. Of course I LOVED the chandeliers.
Their cake by Creative Cakes by Donna was simple and elegant.
Gillian and Eric danced to "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds. I love both of these dance shots so much that I can't pick a favorite between the two... Kathleen's favorite is the one on the left. It is a good thing they work very well next to each-other. :) Look for a future post relating to their first dance song, we have something special planned! :)
We figured it would be fitting to finish this post with this shot during the last dance of the evening.
Gillian & Eric, we had such a wonderful time spending your day with you. We hope you are having an awesome time in Tahiti & Australia, can't wait to see the pictures you get!! Thank you so much for everything and once again Congratulations!! ~Rob & Kathleen~ |
