It was a night filled with romance, music and dancing - everything you could hope for at a night in the theater. And the love story they witnessed that night was even more special, because this wasn't a story filled with fantasy and works of imagination - it was real. The real marriage of two people who wanted nothing more in the world than to be together for their rest of their lives...and to share that moment with all of their family and friends. One glimpse at him when he saw her at the end of the aisle and you couldn't help but be caught up in it the raw emotion of it all. Like the location itself, she too looked almost too beautiful to be real and you could see in his eyes that he probably wanted to pinch himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming. She caught his eye and the joy she had been feeling could no longer be contained - she burst into a huge smile and held on to her mother and father a little tighter as she walked to meet him in the front of the room. After the sun went down the second act began. For their grand entrance into the reception, he quite literally swept her off her feet - carrying her into the room as the crowd went wild. As the went into the first dance, she gazed into his eyes nearly the whole time with that very same smile still on her face. When they finished and walked over to take their seats for dinner they had a perfect view of the room. It was an amazing sight, to see all of the people who had come to celebrate with them. They probably wanted to pinch themselves to make sure they weren't dreaming. ASHLEY & MICK Ever since we first meet with Ashley and Mick many months ago, we had been very much looking forward to their wedding. Not only because they are such a fun couple to be around but also because it meant we were going to get to photograph at the Bushnell in Hartford. As you know from reading our blog, I am a huge fan of the theater and Rob was excited because the last time he had been there was to see a show many years ago. When Cathy the catering manager of the Bushnell (who is incredibly sweet and SO helpful) told us we could use the stage for some photos, we felt like we kids in a candy store. And then we saw the ceremony location. It was right at the Bushnell in the Seaverns Room - filled with deep Mahogany details and classic touches, it feels like a room you'd find in a old mansion. Just when we didn't think it could get any better, we remembered where we'd be spending the time in between the ceremony and reception with Ashley & Mick - right next door at the grounds of Bushnell Park in front the Capitol Building in Hartford. We couldn't have asked for a better way to spend a day - shooting a gorgeous couple in some incredible locations, we really have an amazing job! Note: Just as a reminder, Kathleen writes the story (above) and Rob does the short narrating under each photo. For those of you who have never been to the Bushnell, it is such a gorgeous building and we wanted to make sure we incorporated the architecture throughout the day. This huge window located in the Seaverns Room (where Ashley & Mick's Ceremony took place) provided the perfect place to photograph her beautiful Liv Harris gown.

Ashley's bright pink calla lily bouquet was really beautiful.

We had a couple moments before the ceremony where we took a few bridals of Ashley. She looked absolutely radiant.

The stage in one of the theathers at the Bushnell provided a really fun and unique location for some photos of the girls before hand.

This was such an exhilarating moment. It isn't often that you get to go up onto a professional theater stage.

After spending some time with the girls we caught up with the guys, also before the ceremony. We rode the elevator up with them and also headed to the theater stages. We really love the "Entourage" feel of this one.

The staff at the Bushnell were really helpful and gave us access to just about everywhere in the building. We brought the guys backstage and utilized some of the super cool stage riggings as a background.

Once it was time for their ceremony we headed to the Seaverns Room. They had a custom runner down the aisle which helped tie in all the details of the day.

...as I got ready to capture this photo a couple minutes later coming down the aisle.

We really loved the Seaverns Room at the Bushnell. The detail in the ceiling and throughout the entire room was really great; it was such a nice and intimate place for their ceremony.

As Mick got a first look at Ashley he was so incredibly happy.

The got married up on a small stage in front of the room. There was a piano player also on the stage who provide music for the ceremony.

I can't always describe why it is that I like a photo but I know we really like this one of Ashley & Mick lighting their unity candle. There is just a nice feel about this whole moment.

The ceremony is one of our favorite parts of the entire day. We love searching and capturing all of the emotions and little moments that will help our couples remember what it felt like going through it all. We think something as little as holding hands or capturing the look between two people is what it is all about.

Isn't the look on Ashley's face priceless as Mick recites his vows?!

After the ceremony, we all walked across the street to Bushnell Park to take some photos by the State Capitol Building.

As many of you already know, we really love having fun with wedding parties. We think relaxed formals especially with groups make for much more interesting photos, and one of the things that makes us different. The front steps of the Capitol Building was the perfect spot to make this happen.

As Ashley & Mick shared a kiss, their wedding party came running forward in excitement. So much fun!!

The lighting at this time of their day could not have been more perfect and we really love how sweet Ashley & Mick are together.

We took a moment to capture this photo as Ashley showed off her bright pink shoes.

We really love how the simplicity of this photo adds to the romantic feel.

When we describe our photography one of the most important things to us is timelessness. We want our photos to really stand the test of time and to be just as meaningful 50 years from now. We think this photo is the perfect example of this.

Seriously, I think we could have photographed at the Capitol Building all night. It feels as if we were on the grounds of a castle somewhere in Europe.

We really love this moment!

Despite being in their wedding clothes, Ashley & Mick were more than happy to take a seat on the lawn of the capitol.

Right before finishing up at the park Ashley and Mick shared one more kiss on the grounds.

After spending time at the park, we headed back to the Bushnell for their reception.

Their reception took place in the Autorino Great Hall. In the center of the room there is this beautiful bright red Chihuly sculpture hanging from the two story ceiling.

They had great black & white Damask with fuchsia details and white feather centerpieces.

...and really delicious cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries. Can you say YUM!! :)

During the introductions of the wedding party, each guy and bride's maid did something fun as they came into the room. Although they were all great, this one makes us laugh the most.

Mick carried his new wife into the room as they were introduced.

Their wedding party and family surrounded the dance floor as they danced their first dance.

Because we know you all love it... this one is Kathleen's view...

Mick gently dipped Ashley for the perfect finish to their first dance as husband and wife.

Later in the evening Ashley danced with her Dad...

I have to say, Mick's father was certainly something else. He was filled with so much energy and some really great dance moves. The thing that got us most though is that he (on multiple occasions) did splits right in the middle of the dance floor. All I have to say is... wow and OUCH!

During the last dance there was so much excitement in the room. Everyone created a huge circle around Ashley and Mick as they spun each other around. It was so fun to be in the middle of all of this energy! Ashley & Mick - We feel so blessed that you chose us to capture your wedding. We had so much fun. Your family and friends are really amazing and added such a nice feel to your day. We hope you had a wonderful time on your honeymoon and hope to catch up with you again soon. ~Rob & Kathleen~

Photography is something very special; it allows us to meet really wonderful people and brings us to some really incredible places. As many of you already know, we just got back from Paris. This city is by far is one of our favorite places (that we have seen so far) in the world. It is a city filled with beautiful architecture, delicious food, such interesting history and of course all the art you can handle; it is certainly a photographer's dream. (We were lucky enough to also visit Paris last, you can view some of the photos from that trip by clicking HERE.) Before heading overseas we reached out to a couple of photographers out in France who like us are part of The [b] School. For those of you who don't know, The [b] School is a really fantastic networking group for photographers headed up by the one and only [b]ecker. This group has been an invaluable resource for us, allowing us to meet photographers from all over the world. Last Thursday we met up with three French photographers that came into Paris so we could all get to know each other a little better. The extremely talented Hoppy Kindanda (who took an 8 hour train ride to meet us - how amazing is that?!) and equally as talented Matthieu Vanhille joined us at a French Bistro where we talked about photography, our businesses and life in general. It was really wonderful to see how similar we all are even though there is an ocean between us. After we enjoyed a couple hours of great conversation we had had an impromptu photo shoot with the beautiful Ségolène who had joined Hoppy on the long train journey earlier into Paris to model for us. Since we didn't know for sure that we would have the opportunity for a photo shoot, we had only two lenses with us, our 50 f/1.2 and our 24 f/1.4. It was interesting because it forced us out of our comfort zones. Normally I use the 24 (and our 85 f/1.2) and Kathleen is a big fan of the 50. This time I used the 50 and Kathleen used the 24, it was a great exercise that made us think differently about how we shoot and ultimately we think this kind of exercise really adds to us becoming better photographers. We suggested that the Louvre would be a great place for us to photograph Ségolène. In addition to having awesome architecture, the Louvre has great indoor areas and courtyards. We also shot at the Tuileries right by the Louvre where David Huitorel, a Parisian Photographer joined us for the rest of the shoot. To say that this experience was amazing would be a complete understatement. We had to pinch ourselves often to see if it was actually happening. Photographing a beautiful model in one of our favorite world cities with three incredible photographers that we are so happy to now call our friends was one of the highlights of our trip. Here are just a few of the many photos we took during this shoot. We photographed a ton of the architecture in these two amazing cities so definitely be on the lookout for that. We hope you are all having a great week!

We started our photo shoot with Ségolène in the main courtyard at the Louvre...

...where we immediately found out that she was a complete natural.

The fountains and buildings really provided the perfect backdrops.

It started to rain out so we headed under one of the enormous archways to take advantage of some the textures that the building had to offer while we all stayed dry.

This photo is one of my personal favorites. Although very simple, I love the feel and the wind blowing Ségolène's hair couldn't have been better!

We really loved all of the columns. The one on the left is my view and the photo on the right is Kathleen's view at the exact same moment.

Despite the fact that Ségolène did not speak English and our French is not very good we were able to give Ségolène some direction.

After the rain stopped, we headed back outside.

If you have ever been to the Louvre, you probably know that some people absolutely love the modern glass pyramids in the courtyard and some really dislike them. There really isn't much in between. We personally love them, the contrast between the modern and the old is really great in our opinion. Despite what you feel there is no denying that they have become quite a reconginzable icon of this great museum. We did more night photography (one of our all time favorite things) at the Louvre so make sure you look out for that in a future post. In the meantime this shot is Kathleen's view of Ségolène by the largest pyarmid...

...and this is my closeup at the same moment.

We love her gentle smile as she took a seat on the stairs. Again this is my view...

...and this is Kathleen's view a moment later. I love how she incorportated the architecture surrounding the stairs.

Most of the afternoon was cloudy with moments of rain. We did however have a small window of time where the sun actually came out which provided the soft, warm light in this photo.

As we headed over to the Tuileries we spent time in a grassy area for a little while.

The sun didn't stay out very long and before we knew it the clouds had rolled back in. This was actually a very wonderful tihng as the clouds added some seriously awesome texture and of course perfect even light.

I really love the serious look on her face in this photo.

The clouds had such intense colors and let me tell you Ségolène was a seriously awesome model.

Lastly we gave one of our cameras to a random person nearby (and prayed they woudn't run away with it) so we could all get a photo together. Thank you so much to Hoppy, Matthieu, David and most importantly to Ségolène for such a great afternoon and for traveling from both near and far for us. We really love what we do and feel so lucky that we get to do it so often. We decided to put together a little preview blog post so you can get a glimpse into what we have been up to. We are taking a little time off to relax and get ready for the second part of the year but of course we will have full blog posts on all of these events coming up in the next couple of weeks. This preview post starts off with a couple of photos from Ashley & Mick's amazing wedding up at the The Bushnell Theater in Hartford. Let me tell you that the staff at The Bushnell are really second to none. They were absolutely wonderful and were incredibly helpful. We had a ton of fun with the wedding party on the stages and in the theaters. Definetely check back soon for the full post, it will definetely be worth it. We also went across the street to the State Capitol building. Last week we also got the amazing opportunity to photograph a newborn baby session for one of our past wedding clients. It is always such a wonderful thing to go back and visit our couples after they start a family. Is even more amazing to get to hold (and photograph) the baby that they just created. Finally, this weekend we had two weddings, the first was Rachel & Farid's up at the Candlewood Inn in Brookfield. They had a beautiful outdoor ceremony overlooking the lake. The second wedding that we photographed was Dana & Darren's at the Great River Golf Club in Milford. We had a 10 minute crazy rain storm that came through the area but once that was finished we had such an awesome time around the golf course with both Dana & Darren as well as their wedding party. Back then there were a few weeks to go and you could tell that both Dana and Darren were very much looking forward for the day to come. They couldn’t stop smiling at each other at that day, surely the smiles will be even bigger today since their wedding day has finally arrived! The usual crew - Rob, Sue and I - will be going over to Milford for their wedding at the Great River Golf Club. As always, check back soon for photos from their day.
